I use my TomTom Via 1435 all the time. I absolutely love it! However, the recent update of the MyDriveConnect software is a failure for my needs. I use my TomTom for routing in Race Across America and load custom POI's (.ov2), sound files (.ogg) and graphics (.bmp) To load custom.ov2's used to be a one click operation, it now takes about 5. I don't see any way at all to load the sound and graphic files.
(MyDriveConnect only allows uploading the.ov2 file type) I realize that supporting cross country bicycle races is a small niche market, but people who load red light and speed camera files will be having the same issue. Anybody know a work around, or is TomTom working on a fix?
The ultra bicycle race world (Race Across America, Race Across the West, Race Across Oregon, etc) uses Garmin Nuvi because of better support. I've always expounded on the virtues of my TomTom, and even have the bosses at Race Across America now looking at TomTom. It just has been so far superior to Garmin, but now if I have to jump through all sorts of hoops to load the points (OV2) and can't load sound (OGG.) or graphics (.BMP) I guess I may have to get a Garmin too.
Dec 16, 2015 - i.e. My old tomtom had cow sounds and car honks and all sorts of sounds. You can import.wav or.ogg files via Add community content to my.
Another thing I just noticed is that there seems to be no way to delete files via the computer once I'm done with them. It's a major disappointment. I wish I had never allowed the MyDrive update. I was searching for the.exe location on my computer, found it. I also found an executable to install version 3.30.xxxx. I tried to reinstall, it got an error and failed. I went back to control panel and removed the current version of MyDriveConnect and tried again.
I've now got my old version back, it talks to my TomTom. Of course it prompts me that an upgrade is available, but I'm not going to click on that again! Since the ability to load.ogg and.bmp is vital to my needs, I'm not going to upgrade MyDriveConnect until I see in the forums that the option to load those files has been restored. From past experience, I'm not going to hold my breath.
Thanks so much for the help. I could only add POI files, specifically not allowed to add.ogg or.bmp. I've deleted the new version and reverted back to my old version (after days of searching!). My current version (3.30.xxxx) works just fine for my needs, and works just as you describe. I am reticent to reinstall the new version to see if the link you provide would work. It does bring up the same page that I get to with my version 3.30.xxxx. Just for others reading and following along.
I still have not got a response from TomTom Tech Support. Niall wrote: @Crew Cheif Kevin On my Start20 I have just added a POI with its bmp and ogg file by selecting 'Add community content' from MyDriveConnect (version 4.0.2.2123 ) which opened a new tab ( ) in my default browser (Chrome Version 42.0.2311.90 m) I added the.ov2 and.bmp file using the 'Add POI' and the.ogg using the 'Add Warning Sound' buttons Hope this helpsThat's weird. I have a Start 25 now using MyDrive Connect 4.0.2.2123 on a Windows 8 PC and I DON'T HAVE an 'Add Community Content' option anymore.
At least I can't see it. It was always present on previous versions.
Thing is, if you've used MyDrive Connect before to do this it should still be possible with the latest version. This customisation is not actually carried out by MyDrive Connect itself, you would expect it to be but it isn't.
I know it is confusing. What is happening is you use your own default browser to access your TomTom at an assigned IP address via ethernet through the USB port. The link providing this device IP address is contained in the 'Manage community content' message in the latest MyDrive Connect control panel, which is located in the message area of Windows Task Bar.
Your device needs to be plugged in to the PC and turned on to see this link. When MyDrive Connect is running, find its control panel on the Task Bar, tap on 'Manage Community content', your browser should open with a page of the various options to download files to your device.
Why they do it this round about way, I don't know. Why not just have a suitable page in their own TomTom browser based updater?

Hi @Crew Chief Kevin CatNips Description in the above quote, is correct. With you device turned on and plugged into the PC USB port With MyDrive loaded and the MyDrive showing on the PC Taskbar Click on the Icon in the highlighted small square and a larger MyDrive window opens Click on the Icon in the highlighted 'Manage Community Content' Note. If your running customized Icons on the PC Task-bar you may have to click on the 'Custom Task-bar Icon' to see all of the Programs Icons.
